Why I created a Website By: Ken Arsenault |
|
It's been about a week since I joined the ranks of web site publishers. It seems like everyone has a web site these days, and the big question I had to ask myself.... what do I have to offer that's hasn't already been done a million times? Let me first start by giving you some insight into my experience in the sport of bodybuilding. I started lifting weights when I was 15 years old. I new immediately that I was hooked. I trained hard and I trained often. I laugh at myself now, but I used to train body parts 3 times a week. I was the poster child for over training. Amazingly enough..... I continued to grow and continued to improve! My diet was a joke and I liked to go out on the weekends to see if I could break the previous weeks alcohol intake. When I was 24 someone asked me if I wanted to join a club (gym). It was by invitation only. You met the owner..... he looked you over, and decided whether or not to let you join. I was allowed to join and my bodybuilding career began. This particular club just happened to have several of the best ANBC competitors on the planet. A couple of them took me under their wing and showed me the ropes. I competed in my first show when I was 25. It was the 1987 ANBC Massachusetts. I did extremely well for my first show and was hooked on the sport. Over the years I have done at least 25 shows. I joined the OCB three years ago and didn't just find an organization to compete in, but a family. Sean (Sully) Sullivan took me under his wing, and my first show as a competitor was the Maine Event, followed by the Cape Cod Natural (2006). I soon became a judge as well as a competitor. So far, I have judged at least a dozen shows and competed in 8 shows since joining the OCB. So..... here we are, a week into my new venture. What I realized was that the OCB website was only as good as the purpose it was created for. It was meant to be an information highway into the OCB / IFPA. Events, show results, etc., but no real promotion of the people who compete, promote or support these great organizations. I found a niche........ I couldn't find one particular web site that promotes the athletes of the OCB / IFPA in a way I found acceptable. First off..... 90% of us that compete, don't go on to become champions. Does that mean we don't work as hard as the champions? Does that mean we don't have as much desire as the champions? NO and NO! It means that we do the best with what we have, and love the sport just as much as anyone. I have the opportunity, with your help, to promote and give exposure to each and every competitor, whether you're a champion or not. I have the opportunity to promote and give exposure to the promoter, the photographer, MC, judges, and anyone else who supports these great organizations in any capacity. This site isn't about me and I don't want your money. It's for the competitor, by the competitor. I'm just the person who has created the gateway for you. I hope everyone will take advantage of this opportunity and contribute in any way they can. My goal..... If I build it, they will come. Ken Arsenault
